Self-Healing Powers

Updated: Mar 16, 2022

It is quite astonishing how our body can heal itself: For instance, if we cut our finger with a knife, within a day or even just a couple of hours we can observe how the injury is healed up again. It may bleed at first, there might be scabbing, and soon the skin will regrow. Same is true for having a cold. It might be uncomfortable for a while but it usually resolves itself as the immune system fights it off the virus. Our healing capabilities at work!

Innate healing mechanisms work all the time in our favour.

Our body is constantly working to preserve and improve health: repairing body parts, regenerating, re-balancing and optimizing all its functions. A healthy body can regulate itself and maintain balance and well-being. Imbalances are being corrected by self-healing powers in the body to return to a state of equilibrium.

Living a healthy lifestyle supports our healing powers.

Our system works best if we respond to our basic needs like finding good sleep, eating healthy food, exercising regularly, enjoying Nature, and spending times with friends and family. However, our modern life-style comes with a lot of stress, time pressure and a toxic environment like pesticides in food or polluted air. All these factors weaken our body and take a toll on our body’s regenerative power. Another interfering factor is ageing: Healing capabilities decline, and it is harder to reach a good balance in body and mind.

What happens when healing capabilities are interfered with?

When self-healing powers won’t work as efficiently, the body adapts to an imbalanced state with one or more impaired functions. We may feel exhausted, we may have joint pain or we may have headaches. If stress levels are high and the imbalanced state continues, our health gets compromised long-term. Chronic issues may manifest such as chronic back pain, high blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease.

Reflexology helps to engage our self-healing capabilities.

The reflexologist’s hands communicate with the ‘inner doctor’. This is a term coined by Paracelsus, a medical pioneer in the European Renaissance who figured out that we have an innate healing mechanism. Reflexology promotes these healing powers in the body by working with areas of the feet reflecting the body’s lymphatic system, digestive system or nervous system. Reflexology treatments help to regulate the functions of organs and tissues, and improve breathing, digestion and healing processes.
